Babylonfest is a project of European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The aim of the festival is to show Brno as a multicultural city. By organizing a wide range of cultural and social activities we want to address as many citizens of both Brno and the South Moravian Region as possible and to make them familiar with culture of other nations and ethnic groups.

Dear friends, many thanks for your appreciation of Babylonfest 2008! We hope you can stay faithful visitors for the next year!

Temperamental Spanish musician Carmen has been active since her childhood in vocal groups and studied piano for eight years at a conservatory. A native from the Ivory Coast Djei has been since his early years of age surrounded by a fascinating African music. In spring 2004 came into being in Prague together with Czech and Slovak musicians United Flavour.
Cultural influences of Spain, Africa and Central Europe make from the music of United Flavour an energetic mix, in which one can find elements of Latin music, reggae, dancehall, r'n'b, soul and hiphop. The group wants to show by their performances, that also people of different nationalities, from varied origins and denominations can co-operate together without any problems, violence or fight, and can enrich each other above all. Haydamaky

A Ukrainian group Haydamaky has been written about by enchanted West European reviewers: "This is Europe we did not know about before!" The group has recently returned from a triumphal West European tour, which lasted several months and led them from Italy to Germany and Scandinavia. They do not offer a copy of Western music, but their own visions of Eastern Slavonic one put on a rock base. All of this is an energetic and effective mix with other musical influences such as reggae and punk. Their music is often characterized as West Carpathian ska, Ukrainian dub and Hucul punk. Haydamaky became in their home country a voice of the orange revolution and abroad stars of many big festivals. Currently they are releasing their fifth CD with a respected German label Eastblok. The group also became an important cultural ambassador of Eastern Europe at events such as The Book Fair in Leipzig or WOMEX in Seville.
